Warwick Stubbs is on page 304 of 432 of Krakatoa : The Day the World Exploded: August 27, 1883
We're now at a point - about 90 pages from the end - where Winchester continues to go down adjacent paths of odd information and facts, as though the human story doesn't matter any more. Some really great detail about the impact and destruction caused by Krakatoa's explosion, but following on from that, the human story keeps getting put aside for geological facts. And I'm sick of it.

Most of Dawn was set in a chamber and I was drawn in by the mystery of the aliens and why Lilith had been taken, but that specific mystery is resolved, and in Adulthood Rites, the kidnapping of Lilith's son, Akin, doesn't hold a lot of tension - there's no feeling of desperation by the kidnappers, and this far through the book we have no idea what Lilith is experiencing having lost her son.

I feel sorry for Mr. R. Walton who this framing story is built around. At least I can skim-read through the boring parts. Poor Walton is sitting there on the ship listening to the interminable Frankenstein wax lyrical about his travels and his own problems. Maybe he's got some very strong rum on board numbing his thoughts...

I've decided to stop removing books from my reading list because I stopped reading them. I don't have a lot of free time, or the home environment to relax into book reading. So I've decided to keep those unfinished books on the Currently Reading list with every intention of returning to them when I have time, or when I need a break from something else I've slowed down on.

I am thoroughly enjoying the reading of this book. Kosmatka doesn't piss around in any of his storytelling, and yet manages to create real and likeable characters. Prose is straight forward and science concepts are simply explained.
