The relationships and character development in this book is so complex and fully explored! I love Hoa and Essun's relationship! They are all realistic and beautiful. I'm almost done with this one and I recently picked up the third book from the library.

ok so cellular memory is worked in to the plot beautifully and it really makes for a unique and interesting plot element! And, oh boy, all these twists!! Just don't let me down in the end Cleave.

Chapter 15
This story is so multi-layered and beautiful! Jemisin's writing amazing. The way she captures the nuances of what it's living as an oppressed people is heart wrenching. Little, innocent Nassun is just finding out how oppression seeps into every crevice of a person's being and changes them and the way they connect to and interact with people (even people they love) and society.

MY MIND IS LITERALLY BLOWN! LMAO I NEVER SAW THIS COMING!!! There has been twist after twist and this one takes the cake!

Hmmmmm....so not sure how I feel about the way all the dots are being connected

Olillia seems more like plot device and less like an actual character. She doesn't do anything but help Josh connect dots and drive the plot. I would have liked to see her character explored a little more.

I had dream last night that someone was hunting me down and trying to steal all my organs! Everywhere I tried to rub there bodies with missing organs! They looked like they had an autopsy performed on them! Lol it was so weird. Thanks Cleave lol

I totally ship Josh and Olillia!! I love how there is the potential for such an innocent, beautiful thing (their relationship) among all the horrors of this story. The contrast is really intersting. I am going to need Josh to become a badass though!

This is based loosely on the cell memory hypothesis (which hasn't been substantiated). Despite cell memory being unsubstantiated this is an interesting exploration! The book opened with a bang and things have just been steadily rolling forward since then. I'm loving it! Who would have thought, I actually like thrillers lol
