This really is excellent. Reads like a dream.

Extremely dated - packed with references to 1970s (and earlier) sports stars and public figures, plus *everyone* is a "he" - but has some solid, if relatively obvious, pointers on workplace behaviour nonetheless. Passable charity shop purchase to carry on my occasional delve into business books.

Finally started up with this again, and finally think I may be starting to follow what's going on...

Finally got around to reading this. Very readable indeed so far, as most of Beard's stuff is - but also,m more interesting than I was expecting so far, as it's focused as much on the idea of Rome's history as the history of Rome. Not a straight narrative history, and all the better for it.
