this book is so sad

I’m listening to the audio book, and I didn’t know this until I started listening, BUT MERYL STREEP IS THE PERSON READING. Genuinely, I’m starting to realize Meryl Streep could read the manual for a toaster and make it sound interesting. However, with the fantastic material Tom Lake has to offer, I’m completely enraptured by the combination of wonderful storytelling and beautiful words

The details of this book, and knowing the events occurred in the same sleepy college town I currently reside, make my skin crawl. I feel sick knowing that these two poor girls were helpless in a way I’ve experienced, and there was no one there to save them. I cannot imagine a case like this getting so out of hand in today’s world, and I can only hope this story ends with a mystery solved.

Ok I was wrong, but not entirely. The guy who was murdered was still advocating for this land to be conserved sustainably (hooray go env. sci.) but the people who wanted to develop the land (the children of the man who actually owned the land) killed him as well as their own father FOR THE MONEY! (unless of course I’m wrong…)

I’m on Chapter 10 of this book. Because I have no one to discuss my theories with, I’m going to put them here. So this could be a spoiler, could just be gibberish. Theory so far: Murdered man was testing contaminated water when he waved and talked to Jack. Person who contaminated water didn’t want the news to get out, so he murders the guy, and tries to stick it on Jack. Hopefully I get to say I was right!

No way this is getting so juicyyyyy. The drama, the intrigue, THE SECRETS!!! I’m afraid I cannot stop..

This definitely would have been a better autumn read, but it’s so quirky and cute, I’m willing to pretend it’s October and the leaves are brown

This book has been so difficult for me to get through. The amount of times I have had to take month long breaks after reading a chapter too incredibly heartbreaking is insane. Going on nearly 2 years, but thank god I’m almost done.
