"Dad. Why haven't you called me? I left you a million messages."
"You left me too many messages. You shouldn't be calling me or even thinking about me. You're in college now. Move on."

This snippet of dialogue surprised me. Maybe it makes sense, taking into account Cath's relationship with her father, but a parent should never say anything like this to their child. Not even jokingly. Unacceptable.

"I'm more focused on other people, and how they ultimately come to the decision to just end their own lives. Do they ever regret it? In the moment after letting go and the second before they make impact, there has to be a little bit of remorse in that brief free fall. Do they look at the ground as it rushes toward them and think, 'Well, crap. This was a bad idea.' Somehow, I think not."

"That was a good feeling to go on, so I walked away from them, giving myself the old advice as I went: don't look back, never look back. How often do people tell themselves that after an experience that is exceptionally good (or exceptionally bad)? Often, I suppose. And the advice usually goes unheeded. Humans were built to look back; that's why we have that swivel joint in our necks."
