This is very much a plot driven book. Not sure how much I'm going to like it when it's all over, but I will say Rollins knows how to throw in a lot of plot elements to keep the story interesting.

I'm well into the first third of this book. this is my first book by James rollins. I would compare it to the scientific thrillers written by Preston & Child. It's not well written, but we'll see if the pace can sustain my interest to the end.

The first story was quite interesting in that it is written from the perspective of Death who had only twenty heartbeats (in time) to deliver about 100 souls to Hades. Really quite entertaining. (Of course our heroes, who are on his list, have no problem cheating him of their souls and therefore receive a reprieve for an indeterminate amount of time (in heartbeats).

This is an anthology of four unrelated stories by different authors all writing in the fantasy genre virtually created by Robert E. Howard and his novels of Conan the Barbarian.

Finished the first story ("1922"). it was very good. Now half way thought story #2 ("The Driver")/ So far so good. Rather tense.

After a slow start, the book is living up to expectations (i.e. plenty of Tonight Show schtick).

Tina has concluded the section on Sarah Palin and is about to begin discussing motherhood.

Bond is about to face the criminal Le Chiffe for the first time across the baccarat table.

The influence of the buried object is growing. The town of Haven is experiencing some bizarre events. Officers Bent and Jingles are investigating the mishap at the town hall.
