The scenes with Annie listening to Bert pitching her the darker-and-edgier Lynx like she has no experience in comics or movies and just cutting his bloviating out from under him is so cathartic I think I groaned once.

Go for it, girls, promise your souls to Satan if it means you can turn the housemistress and that damn "social worker" into newts, get bloody revenge on Holly's baby's father, and burn this place TO THE GROUND.

I have already laughed out loud twice and made sarcastic comments to the narrator/characters three more times. This book is delightful.

Haven't read this in probably 30 years, but something--maybe Seanan McGuire's Sarah Zellaby--has it on my mind.
