This book, almost certainly destined to be considered a classic of American literature, is so gorgeous in its execution but so disturbing in its characters and scenarios that I am only able to take it in pieces. Absolutely remarkable.

Good God. There's a scene here that upset me in a way I seldom experience. This is just gut-wrenchingly terrifying, even though nothing at all has been explicated or even hinted at yet.

I'm not even halfway through this book yet, but--and I am dead serious--this may be the best novel I've ever read. Absolutely glorious.

I've come to the conclusion that this book is a modern masterpiece, and I'm only three stories in. An expertly-crafted nightmare of time and space, with interconnected plot-lines that draw together in surprising ways. From the bone-chilling folk horror of "Landscape with Maps & Legends: Dead Voices on Air" to the ghostly "Black Box" to the truly epic "History's Crust", I just can't get enough of this book.
