I'm loving this intro to recreational mathematics so far. Parker presents fun math puzzles and number tricks in the spirit of Martin Gardner, "dad jokes" and all.
The first chapter talks about number bases, aliens, and the caterwauling of the Dozenalists.

Ch11: We like to think that we have complete control of our S2, but even our effortful analyses can be subject to priming effects such as anchoring. When asked to make numeric estimates of facts outside our knowledge base, we use a recent number as an anchor and adjust away from this number. Alternatively, we reject the anchor, accept an opposition and adjust towards the anchor. Problem: we don't adjust sufficiently.

Ch10: Most people believe that they have a good 'statistical intuition' but fail to recognize and accept randomness. We tend to seek causal explanations to phenomena when none in fact exist.

'We pay more attention to the content of messages than to information about their reliability, and as a result end up with a view of the world around us that is simpler and more coherent than the data justify.'
