I’m wary of this one. I actually quite like it so far, but I’m just afraid it’s about to take a drastic turn.

This phrase-“his breath was warm on her neck/head/face”- is driving me nuts. I sure hope his breath is warm cus otherwise he’s the living dead. Why are we describing warm breath???? What other kind is there?

How the hell is chaol the captain of the guard and never killed anyone before?????

It’s finally picking up but I find Caelena’s character so inconsistent that it distracts me from the story. I feel all the action happens off screen, the book is focused on all the little conversations between the action which is strange to me. Also there are so many words that should not be used like “psychopath” what Time era are we in? It’s jarring to use modern psychology in a supposed medieval book. 🧐

It’s a slog. seriously I am so bored out of my mind. I was promised assassins in a gladiator competition but this so far reminds me of P.E. In high school. Like straight up every time they have a “test” I imagine them in a High school gym. The main character is possibly the most unsympathetic character I have ever read. How has this series gotten so popular? Like really????
