Sad truth is I’ve heard both genders be assholes like this more times than I can count. — “Oh, well,” said Mrs. Hale’s husband, with good-natured superiority, “women are used to worrying over trifles.”

Or another possibility is that women were always writing crime stories but never getting published. or both. — “…women chose to write crime stories because they were successful at it. Success on the part of one woman breeds the desire for success on the part of another.”

Every story has a main conflict. — “What a crime does in a piece of literature is two-fold. First, it serves as a throughline for the story…”

It breaks the illusion when Lily and her mother don’t have any problems with the moving company. I have yet to meet a person without a moving company horror story..

This book reminds me of the television strategy of deferring and pushing the resolution of romantic tension for as long as they can, preferably the last episode of the last season.

not necessarily, Jordan. They aren’t completely strangers because you went through jury selection. Don’t ask me why the author choose to skip that part.

This book is about thirty years too late. Gay panic has been a thing for a long time. I’d be curious about something like transgendered pregnancy or new anti-trans legislation or something a little more recent if we’re going to be topical. — But maybe that says something about mainstream literature being thirty years late

What. No. And since when is Livy a law expert, anyways? A quick google contradicts Livy: “Both rules …are suspended in cases where one spouse is accused of a crime against the other spouse or the spouse's child. Courts generally do not permit an adverse spouse to invoke either privilege during a trial initiated by the other spouse, or in the case of domestic abuse.”
