I know it’s been a while and I’m reading way slower than usual but a lot going on rn. But also I’m still wildly hooked and every time I go to read more I get sad I don’t have enough time to read as much as I want. The physical book is starting to get a lightly played quality now. Took it to the beach, too.

Is there a shelf for “refuse to read or ever pick up, don’t ever show me this again”

Slow with this one had a lot going on. Still do but this is so incredible so far and not even close to really getting into it.

I love the way this guy does shocking reveals and subtle betrayals. I also love that everyone goes pale when they’re nervous or shocked, sometimes can be comical. Really has me hooked right away despite hearing that it takes a while.

A lot of the French politics of ye olde I’m not familiar with but that’s what I like about older books, I feel like I’m learning something. I was never good at history, either, or geography. The notations of different historical figures, references, and things like songs or money denominations are really helpful.

Damn they’re really after this man’s whole life already.

Found this exact copy at a bookstore while out today, very excited to see why it is praised so much.

This will be the first one that’s new to me that I’ve read.

Yikes it’s definitely old and weird still. Like gorey astroboy almost. I enjoy the little stories and medical illustrations and horrors. The racism and sexism and others are still there unfortunately. Would love a modern remake of this without all that I think it would do well. Like medical junji ito to me.

I found a copy of war and peace at the thrift, but that’s not what I’m after, didn’t grab. I think I’m after Count of Monte this time, or, if possible, any more info either the Barnes and noble collection classics or the black cover penguin classics. Ideally.

A manga I found as a kid once in the library, and was super surprised to see it in the library digitally, and all 17copies. I know anything other than the first 3 are rare and expensive, so this is incredible for me personally lol.
I was always interested in medical science even as a kid, so this was a super fun read. Excited to revisit after 13 years.

A quick read but love it so far.

Written very late 1800s I saw. I like the older cadence and style to the writing. Older stories like from Dante and in here will refer to the reader directly and I think that’s fun.

Accidentally nearly devoured this overnight oops. I didn’t realize it was so short, I’ll have to see the other books, as well.
Currently considering purchasing an untranslated original copy to keep and look over obsessively.

Read intro and I’m hooked. Saying this as a House of Leaves fan.
