This is an impressionistic novel of no-plot but a series of associations, images, faces, and encounters that build a life-jacket which the narrator, who has fallen off an ocean liner, needs in order to keep her mind on living. It's an original conceit, but one which came with its own pitfalls. The author Silvina Ocampo has been crafting this novelette for many years, and it casts its own unique spell on the reader.
