Hunger Strike is an amazing novella.

It is a common delusion, I know, everyone entertains it.”

It was a sumptuous, oh, truly a sumptuous autumn day, all Byzantine copperas and golds under a Tiepolo sky of enameled blue, the countryside all fixed and glassy, seeming not so much itself as its own reflection in the still surface of a lake.

Sumptuous prose, carefully, thoughtfully written. I am scarcely 30 pages in and already living in the memories summoned by the narrator/protagonist.
