The General’s epic stories about his encounters with Napoleon when he was a 10 year old boy are so detailed, so nuanced, that they have the ring of truth. And yet they are lies, embellished for the sake of his own self-importance. As if Napoleon would ask a dumb Russian kid whether he should stay in Moscow or beat it back to France. Myshkin tragically indulges him. Another portrait of an Idiot, one full of bluster.
