This chapter. Oh man. I love the way he gets to step up as a fake date, and at every point he’s silently letting her have control of the situation again, and THE CHEMISTRY is off the charts. We’re in her POV, so we know she’s not faking it, but Jake? As much as it fits the persona to be a playboy, he’s just not. Kinda wish he’d hit Logan though…

Ugh their flirting is SO CUTE and awkward lol.

Roman affairs are always so convoluted. Also pretty funny how quickly all the events read — and then there’s a comment of “two years later” or “he built a trireme” and you suddenly realise how long everything actually takes to unfold!

I swear finishing one chapter of this deserves as much praise as finishing an entire other book.
And does Josephus ever explain who any of these people are?! I need a map with labelled figures, colour-coded by country!
