the 1st story was great but it kind of fell off after that. i gave up about half way through.

this one's taking a while. it's interesting but only intermittently any fun. i feel like i need to know a lot more than i do about leftist politics in the late '40s to understand what the characters are talking about a lot of the time. this might not have been a good place to start with christina stead as it's a posthumously published novel that was patched together by her literary executor from 2 abandoned versions

is there a word for, uh like a truism but not actually true?
like for inst "everyone" "knows" that the most boring shit to listen to is other people's dreams​ or other people's drug experiences. not true. only certain kinds of drug stories are boring, & those are of course the "what i saw when i was tripping" stories. there's a few too many of those in this book tbh.

my girlfriend took it back to the library by mistake when i'd only read about 10 pages

my girlfriend returned it to the library by mistake after i'd only read about 20 pages, it looked ok tho, will try again some time

gave up somewhere like 2/3 of the way thru. this one was interesting in theory.
