i believe this book is an extended metaphor - on how to not waste one’s life and live life to the fullest; perhaps haig is also telling the readers that life cannot always be to perfection. the way haig has conveyed the protagonist’s life (Nora) is exceptional, as a reader we can gain a deeper understanding with her regret of life choices. This piece of literature will most certainly become a classic!
