Peeta/Rue/Mustang is on the verge of death, Katniss/Darrow must brave the Institute/Arena to find them the medicine they need—the songs of District 12/Lykos ringing in their ears—

“My name is Darrow, leader of House Mars. I’m here to meet with your Primus, if you have one. If you don’t, your leader will suffice. And if you don’t have one of those, take me to whoever has the biggest balls.”

Yikes

This is about to turn into a Red Rising flame account istg

“The test is quick and the form of an immersion game. There is a goblet on a hill that I need to acquire. Many obstacles stand in my way. In the end, I reach the goblet, but only after killing an annoying wizard and cruelly enslaving the race of elves.”

First of all

The telling versus showing here should be STUDIED

…Darrow takes slavery lightly??

Ermmmmm
Surely the world-building will start to be taken seriously soon, yes?
And super hot tall strong muscular Darrow, after meeting Frankenstein, will become an interesting monster, yes?
And the Institute won’t just be academy core, rightttttt??

I fear it’s already not looking good folks - I was not anticipating to feel like I was reading a Hunger Games/Divergent fanfiction with more overt child marriage.

The players are slowly but surely coming together, the stakes are being drawn, the world(s) have begun to reveal themselves; it’s becoming more and more apparent to me why the author provided a cast list at the beginning - it really does almost read like a play.

That being said, I think it’s suffering a bit from not letting us get in good quality time with most of the relevant characters.

Liking and am impressed with the pacing so far; handling epic fantasy of this scope is not easily done but I have hopes for Erikson already
