Kind of scary. Finding out just how on the edge we are living in the Age of Trump.

Herbert Hoover: "The only trouble with capitalism is capitalists. They're too damned greedy." He did try to take some steps before the crash but no one wanted to get with the program. So he liquidated his stocks but no public announcements.

1927 flood and racism rears its ugly head. The whites are saying "it's like a camp meeting" not so for the African-Americans. Poor whites are eating better than before and blacks are barely eating. Not Hoover's fault- the camps are run by locals. Hoover proposed lending left-over funds so poor can buy land. Pooh-poohed by the Red Cross. Sad!

H. L. Mencken and Dashiell Hammett went to the same high school as my father. They didn't go on to college but he did.

He questions how the Incas could have lost to the Spaniards. They outnumbered them. But the Spaniards had better transportation (horses vs. llamas) and technology (weaponry vs. spears/stones/slingshots).

Funny but irritating so far.

I agree with Kiyoshi. Reading the note from Umezawa is "like being forced to read the Yellow Pages!" But it does look like a decent locked room mystery.
