This book has one of the best most intricate plots ever.
But this is not a book you read for the plot because Victor Hugo didn’t write it for the plot. He’s writing it to give us his analysis and breakdown on what he thinks of the French population at that time. So the consequence is that I LOVE the plot, and end up getting impatient and waiting for us to continue the story along, but he doesn’t do that

50 pages talking abt the battle of Waterloo and why Napoleon lost. Completely unrelated to the plot.
