Just finished book one. I'm completely absorbed in the enormity and scale of middle earth. A perilous journey to Rivendell from Hobbiton is just a blip on the cover map; makes me think of that Elden Ring moment where you open your map and realize how much more to the world there is

Chapter 12. Such brutal, senseless violence portrayed with such detail. Down to the specific bone structure of an infant skull that cracks open brains when slammed on the rocks by one of the band of mercenaries. Horrible, terrifying violence, and painfully accurate to the time period.

This book is gonna stick with me.

Gibson is unapologetic, doesnt give a fuck if you recognize anything in this world or not. You’re just in it, strapped along for the ride following characters that are just tools for these super-intelligent AIs. Little hard to keep up with the multiple storylines, but each one is supported by his trademark unforgiving exposition.

a lot more happening here than GEoD, more insight into bene gesserit & tleilaxu and a big focus on sexual servitude. weird and interesting so far — the action is a nice return to form from Leto IIs long philosophical meandering

much prefer this kind of bene gesserit emphasis than the bits and parts seen in previous entries
