Gross, disturbing, and always interesting. Kobo is my favorite main character in a cyberpunk story so far.

Crazy good so far. This man is chuffing erasers like it’s nothing. And the description of bodies. I’m in for a treat.

As I grapple with this book, I grow both more and less fond of green ideals. There are poems that still challenge me, and ones I’ve found are easier. Still rough to open and read however. Still a worthy read too.

The more I read, the closer I get to being able to see what the author intends. After my first read I might read it again to use what’s I’ve learned to see, to look closer this time.

Still difficult to parse, but ultimately a great endeavor. I keep losing track of self when reading these poems, which cause my usually clear vision of the text to become obfuscated. Only through rereads can I grasp again what I’m supposed to be seeing from the words alone.

A Dream of Electric Mothers, is a beautiful tale of grief, and the raising of a child to be better than yourself. In the thought space of the recorded memories three mothers spoke to the speaker, each offering a gentle kindness, but also a fragment of the answer. It is comforting to think of our ancestors still teaching us through ways long passed.

I’ll call this one Comments. Grief isn’t something I’ve experienced quite yet, so I don’t know how I’d feel. But I know it can drive people to do great and terrible things, entwined with one another.

The Million Eyes of a Lonely and Fragile god, is quite short, but hits me deeply. The speakers act of trying his hardest to love Tinuke reminds me of my failed relationship, how u thought I had to lover her, that she was all I could ever have.

Embers is about a deep evil and madness, a resistance to change and the danger of pride. It is a deep tragedy that could only be stopped by the speaker Uduak. It’s a chilling horror story of a red vile evil.

Silence, I didn’t have much to say about this. I was excited for another second person story but it was so empty for me.

Performance review is a kind of horror that grips you in way that’s too familiar. The alien nature of the office, the drastic change in managerial people when it’s time to judge you. Only to realize later that even those above you are subjected to the same treatment that they subject you to. A chilling reflection of what work now resembles.

Nigerian Dream is a short tale of exploitation and abandonment of humanity. Like the American dream, it plays against it the idea is a solid banner that all people of an area aspire to be like, but in reality, it colors the actions of people to be outwardly antagonistic to those who don't share thier worldview.

Everything Tends to 0, has a great display of an immense power, that wants not to harm, but must in its defence. The idea that the speaker is talking to Lagos and that the city feels pity for the fate it has given them. It is tragic, but in a way that feels it could be fought. A full submission to death, to the ends of all things, is something I have felt a want for, but I have always fought.

Abeokuta52 is another short story that brought tears to my eyes. The pain expressed in the article felt to real, to genuine atrocities in our world.
Also an excellent use of the online forum format, I had to cross check replies and comments like a genuine thread.

Ganger, is the longest story so far, but carries with it a realization that science fiction, is no stranger to the way we’ve always told stories. To pair the events that happen, to a similar story of bodily change and purpose from a folk tale, really puts in perspective, how similar all stories are. It is perfect, and simple. A story about storytelling.

It was short and sweet. Gamma. It spoke to my bygone male perspective. It made me feel like Talabi can encompass the whole of experience.

Blowout is a solid story, but not much else to me. It’s always beautiful how Talabi mixes past and present, a trait I greatly admire. Even in its short breath Blowout is full and complete, and making me want more.

Lights in the Sky, even with its short stature punches up and domestic let go. Every moment you spend learning of the situation told to you it hurts, inter-spliced with memories that should bring respite, but only harm you more. I cried, and I know I would not be alone.

Saturday's Song is one of the most gripping short stories I have had the pleasure of reading. A story within a story, both engaging and emotional. As I start to voice train, I feel confident that Wole Talabi will give me characters of voice and breath to find my own.

An arc of electric skin.

Beautifully told, that the cyberpunk future was not the problem of this story, but the symptom. The parallels of the speaker, and the country, embroiled in pain and question mix perfectly.

I wasn’t interested in those feelings at the beginning until I learned that was the story being told. The skin was just there, on top of it all.

Just starting this book really reminds me how much I am gripped by the cyberpunk genre and stylings. About Debut I think it really speaks to the human want, human ability to think other systems and species could have human like thought patterns. It speaks to a best case scenario where sentient AI’s foray into autonomy is art, one of the few joys humans will always create.

The introduction really brings to mind, an idea of horror. The root of all horror, to me, is an unsolvable problem, so a book full of new unearthly problems seems like a thriller.

I think I’m having a hard time getting any of these poems. Not that I don’t understand the intent, but I am wondering if I’m fully digesting it, or if I can’t relate.

What I failed to mention in my last entry was the scope of nature and environmentalism. It’s really the crux of a lot of the passages and it displays a kind of deep hurt I don’t think I’ve ever felt.

It’s been a while since I’ve read a book that asks so much of me to read. Multiple times I e had yo reread the passages to understand what was in front of me, but it is wonderful so far! It’s so full of things that are hard to perceive if you haven’t been to the greater north. I haven’t found something that I fully resonate with but I look forward to finding it.

Once again a whole new cast to work with. Palm, Knuckle, and Shoot. Palm looks so interesting like she's from a different manga, and Knuckle is just awesome. That delinquent with a heart of gold stuff is so good. Glad to see Biscuit back she's still my favorite by far.

The brutality on display is overwhelming. I feel like I've read four different volumes so far just trying to keep up with the speed and power on display before us.
