Just summarising the end of Roman Britain so far.

The book has an easy, accessible style but has also been packed full of facts. A good mix.

A great read overall.

My eyes glazed a little bit in the later chapter that went into the specifics of all the fields, symmetries and interactions of the Higgs mechanism but mostly this was very accessible.

Only complaint is the Audible narrator pronouncing “long lived” as “long live-d” 🤣

So Perrin is going to take a dome that he knows affects channeling and plant it in the White Tower to fight Slayer in the world of dreams at the same time that the Aes Sidai are under attack from the Forsaken?

Can’t see any problems here

Good job Perrin, everyone else worked that out about 30s after Luc was introduced 😂

Great tour of particle physics, CERN and the LHC so far but the book may have peaked with the Audible narrator actually doing the Insane Clown Posse rap 😂

Ah, there it is. The great Cadsuane and Sorilea cliffhanger about them teaching Rand to love and laugh again “resolved” in a throwaway sentence after several books of studiously not being mentioned 🤣

Perrin’s story should be interesting and engaging but… it just isn’t. Not the same extent as Mat or Egwene or any of the other main characters.

A fun read, from the early days of manually controlled telescopes with an observer suspended at the prime focus to the era of queue-based and robotic telescopes.

Full of interesting factoids and anecdotes.

An upbeat start, seems like this will be a fun read.

Holy shit, Sobel’s after the war section is awful.

The latter half of this book relies heavily on Webster’s writings and memories.

One thing this book does really well which the TV show does not is describing how much these men did not want to fight, were constantly terrified by the prospect. Once in a fight they did everything superbly, but they still spent most of their time hoping not to have to fight or for a million dollar wound.

A real drive-by on the French here 🤣

A fast paced, interesting read so far.

Very partisan in its view (as you might expect), but without being facetious.

Gives some interesting context to events as portrayed in the TV show.

Charles I even more of an untrustworthy charlatan than his father 😮

They really are teasing us with the time jump.

Sheriam was Black Ajah. We kind of expected that.

But wait, there’s more! Let me fill you i- oh! A distraction. Well, anyway… Boom, new chapter, another jump forward 🤣

Huge quantities of yada yada of important events 🤣 Understandable with Sanderson having to take over, but funny none the less.

Some of the things that have been bypassed include Cadsuane and Sorilea supposedly teaching Rand to feel, love and laugh? It was a cliff hanger at the end a few books ago and even Jordan just ignored it 🤣

Galloping along. Civil war time!

Is this entire book just an high level narrative of the events of the Stuart dynasty? Nothing wrong with that but not necessarily what I was expecting.

Teasing us with a Mat and Elayne odd couple adventure? For shame.

We are really yada-yada-jng through a lot here. Apparently Rand and Lews Therin and reintegrated in some way now too? 🤣

Next chapter is the final battle then the next three and a half books are just epilogue 😄

One sentence is all it takes to unify the tower, put Egwene on the Amlyrin seat for good and have Elaida captured by the Seanchan.

Quite the sentence 🤣

The first chapter is only 5%? It’s like Sanderson isn’t even trying 🤣

Good stuff so far though, nicely setting the tone.

Well, that was an abrupt and slightly unsatisfying ending for Aran’gar 🤣

Of course the Chosen can just be reincarnated apparently, so not quite as impactful a death.

An odd epilogue.

Suroth being made a slave still leaves her somewhat on table, but Liandrin might still be the biggest threat there.

The Reds bonding Asha’man is interesting but doesn’t the Small Tower also have an agreement to bond warders? Possibly via Rand / Logain.

Ituralde and Egwene’s plots minimal again in this instalment 🤣

A somewhat breathless narrative so far following the repercussions of the execution of Mary Queen of Scots.

Enjoying the narrators forays into foreign accents. Subtle but enjoyable!

Oh, epilogue already?

Was expecting more Rand. More Ituralde. Or something.

Mat murdered a bunch of foolhardy idiots and Perrin got Faile back… but still, a little light on drama compared to previous instalments 🤣

Low key as celebrity weddings go, but I liked it.

A consistently fantastic and interesting read.

Very well told, describing the context, accident, immediate and long term impact and the subsequent investigations before summing up and revisiting the lives of the cast of characters.
