Okay, this book has officially lost me. I fell in love with you while you were in prison, but conveniently I've just recalled that I've loved you since I first saw you, and while I have a huge moral stick up my ass w/r/t your behavior, I've decided we should have sex not only before marriage, but while you're still married to that other guy who is more or less responsible for you going to prison to begin with.

I have been looking at pictures of this damn flower for hours, and it looks nothing like a lady's slipper. For the record.

There is something very 17th century about the tone of this book. There is a very clear delineation between good and bad, venal and virtuous. I can't decide if I like it or not.

Damn this book is good.

I'm really impressed by this book. I normally find all depictions of Nazis, especially art-thieving reprisal-killing Nazis and their blackshirt friends, to be totally ham-handed. Not to mention the women who sleep with them. Bohjalian has done good work!

Ugh. This book is so close to being good, but it's just not pulling it off. Someone should have chopped off the last 1/4 and made her rewrite the damn thing.

I want to like this book, but I find it obnoxious when I figure things out waaaaaaaaaaaaaay before the main character does.

Can I just say: it is my least favorite trope when hot protagonists are all "I guess I look good, but I don't understand the MAGIC that my face works on other people, it's like a MAGNET beyond my control." Like, come on now. There's nothing wrong with being hot stuff

This audiobook continues to be a delight during my commute. The voice actress is perfect and I find myself reading Italian words in her accent.

IT IS A VERY STRESSFUL KIND OF LOVE I FEEL FOR THIS BOOK AND I DO NOT APPRECIATE IT AT THE MOMENT.
