My interest in Tolly is waning.

Ok, Tolly feels REMORSE. I get it. The point has been made. The feeling has been made clear in every possible way. There is no ambiguity about how Tolly feels about what he did. I am 100% confident I know how the character feels. That horse is dead, you could've stop beating it dozens and dozens of pages ago.

Can we please skip the verbiage on move on with the story?

I feel like we've laid enough groundwork here, I'm ready to move on with the story.

I've never met a teenage boy who uses so many words. Kind of ruins the whole "I'm narrating my story" vibe.

This is getting good! I can't remember when I've seen this many standard tropes layered together so seamlessly. The omniscient, infinitive tense narration is a bit weird without a character to voice the narration.

Sending a bunch of starving teenage boys to chase after a supernatural avatar that resurrects every year? What could possibly go wrong?
