Victor Frankenstein presumes that his scientific obsession has caused the misfortunes of loved ones. I will see. If true, maybe Shelley’s point is that our selfish obsessions always hurt the ones closest to us. Maybe Victor realizes that the monster he has created is him.

Such an American novel as Gertrude Nevels always thinks of money to obtain her own land, her bit of Paradise on Earth. And what American is not concerned about the dwindling of resources, whether it be economic, physical, social, or spiritual?

Through the first three chapters, this novel about Gertie struggling to manage her family, her relations, and her meager resources shows the resilence and fortitude of a WWII mother. Style and characterization is quite good.

Okay. Becoming more of a catalog of Wendat customs than a novel. Not much to push or pull the reader through the narrative.

This novel is so good for its originality, the execution of its first person narrator, and the evocation of the female scientist. Every word she writes or speaks possesses a heartfelt veracity.

Okay, but the pace is slow, not much happens to gain interest, and the style is ordinary.

This novel begins to make more sense as the different narratives start to merge. The novel portrays the priest as an egotistical coward, and the Huron are quite sympathetic.

Pretty slow, and the multiple first-person narration becomes a bit annoying. It would be nice to have a more global view.

Hemingway’s death stories: the approach of death or a death itself reveals different facets of character. The two best stories so far, and they are all good, are “The Snows of Kilamanjaro,” in which Hemingway departs from his brute, laconic style, and “A Clean, Well-Lighted Place,” a story that should be read just for the waiter’s moving version of The Lord’s Prayer.”

Meandering a bit: no further development of characters and plot sags.

A pleasant newness about the meeting of Mason and Dixon. I like Pynchon's narrator who uses a mock 18th century style and its idioms. It's a fun reading.
