I can forgive Tolkien his songs. First of all they are beautiful and add depth to the worldbuilding, second of all Tolkien’s books are ultimately fairytales with unique creatures. And it makes sense for songs and legends to be there.

Tolkien’s books are actually never quite about adventure but creatures in his world. Bunch of characters goes somewhere and meet bunch and bunch of different creatures
