It is interesting that this book, despite having read it many many times (I used to read it annually), can still bring me to tears at times. The loss of Gandalf in Moria, the parting of the fellowship, the leavetaking of Frodo from Faramir, the rescue and praising of the ring bearers. Perhaps I'm becoming even more soppy in my old age!

I've read this book so many times I can recite it in my sleep. And yet I still love it dearly. Most often, recently, I've listened to audio versions of it, but this time I'm reading it in print again.
