FIRST OFF, Wes' sister is a terrible mother, and second off, Wes is actually a pretty good dad-figure considering how little warning he seemed to get before becoming round-the-clock babysitter for Laura. I am only 8 pages into the book and this is already clear to me. Of course, this is also a good way to get me rooting for the hero right off the bat.

Not even a quarter of the way through the book and I'm already having to go to sleep with the hall light on. It's not even aggressively scary, just deeply, deeply unsettling. (It doesn't help that I listened to two different iHeartRadio podcasts' episodes about the Donner-Reed party so I'd have a little of the historical background going in.)
