So far we've discovered that the young orphan Pip (Pirrip Philip) was raised by his short-tempered and heavy handed older sister, Mrs. Joe. She is married to Joe Gargery, who is fair and handsome, but dim and gets bullied by his wife. Pip on a visit to the churchyard, got robbed by a "pirate" who then demanded that he bring him food, and a file, the following day. Pop has had to steal these things from the home.
