Don't be fooled by the title of this book. I ignored this book because I thought it's just all kinds of pretty anecdotes regarding St. Francis. The first quarter of this book relies heavily on the MEDIEVAL background of St. Francis Assisi that you would think you're reading a history book

Of all of GK's "collected works", this is the least difficult to read, for a great part of the essays is about his trip around Europe. The difference between the foreign countries was obvious enough to draw simple, amusing philosophic conclusions. The book is also a window to GK's favorite things:
-The winter season
-Railway stations
-FRANCE, French history (warts and all)
-travelling (in order to come home)

I need a break. No philosophy until I finish this book. The Japanese appreciate and knows how to tell a good story.

Finally, Annamaria makes a much needed appearance!

GK Chesterton is the teacher I never had in that learning and the pursuit for Truth becomes addictive.

Lots of juicy analyses. Chesterton is the wise teacher I never had.

What makes GKC so irresistible and unique to read is he never talks about anything without discussing the philosophical idea behind it. 5/5 stars

On my 28th essay out of the total of 67. This is a really, really good contender to my most favorite book in the world The Everlasting Man in terms of enjoyability and wide range of topics covered. With the ease of a jujitsu master, it also captured the exhilarating wit of the man.

Can't wait to finish this book and give my top 10 essays complete with review. *laughs mirthfully*

Nothing can make one feel more like a lady than reading a #JaneAusten novel. L o l. ^_^

Sorry, folks. But Persuasion is a lot better than Pride and Prejudice.

Intelligent and charming a writer as Jane Austen is, unlike Hardy, I can't seem to quote her. Lol. Several times her characters make bad decisions but she never elaborates, or draws any profound conclusion unlike Hardy. She leaves it to the readers' imagination. Interesting.

Wow... That was depressing. Lols

My fourth classic book to read this year. (After Return of the Native, Tess of the d'Ubervilles and Pride and Prejudice).

Pride and Prejudice would be a really dull book without the character Mr. Collins and his epic foolishness.

The best thing about The Return the Native? It's a dark comedy.

The dismal narrative makes me claustrophobic. Lol. I never realized how strong of a preference I have of Chesterton until reading this book. Haha.

I'm more than halfway done, and lovin' every bit of it. <3

Chesterton is much easier to understand in his essays, but just as profound. "The truth is that man’s horror of the skeleton is not horror of death at all. It is man’s eccentric glory that he has not, generally speaking, any objection to being dead, but has a very serious objection to being undignified."

Another thing I like about Chesterton is that he discusses complicated topics with so much ease, elegance and humor that makes him so hard to put down bc chances are most people would stay away from said topics as they have the tendency to bog down and most often they're generally considered 'dull' subjects. But Chesterton sees the irony and the silliness of the misconceptions of the so-called experts; like a knight

had read 5 Odd Thomas books, now on my 6th, and this is possibly the scariest one so far.

Sure, Odd Thomas loves to pontificate, but I really don't mind. :) so glad this is better than 2 & 3!

Took forever to finish! Not as bad as the 2nd but not as good as the first.
