I think this is my least favorite McCarthy so far. I had a hard time putting down “No Country” and “The Road,” but this one is tough to pick up. There’s almost no incentive to read it; no characters to care about, nothing to champion. Just a bunch of gross horrors that may or may not have some string of meaning.
