"Language, even more than color, defines who you are to people." -- Trevor Noah

This book has really surprised me. Strong elements of religion, race relations, history, oppression...it's fascinating. Heart-breaking. Funny. Authentic. I'm really enjoying it.

In the chapter I read most recently, the author describes her struggle with stage fright and insecurities. God's answer: "You be you, and you be mine." I love that. I love the encouragement that offers me, but I also love seeing that in Margaret and in her books. It's beautiful.

Honestly? I'm really struggling with his handling of Scripture. Usually his studies are quite sound, but in this one the author seems to bring strong outside agendas to his commentary.

I really loved Dannah Gresh's books for parenting girls! This one is really missing the mark for me. Thus far the author has hammered her belief that men in today's culture are weak, emasculated, and purposeless, mostly because feminists made them that way. I'm struggling with her logic, her sources, her arguments ... yet I continue to read, hoping for some redemptive content to come.

I'm in that delightful, yet awkward spot where I've started too many books and can't decide which one deserves to be finished first.

I've always seen Elinor as the good and right sister in "Sense and Sensibility." Now I wonder if we Mariannes might be heroines in our own right.
