Chapters 6 and 7 look at hurricane in mid 2000s that caused homes to literally go underwater and then how the rebuilding effort priced out people and/or made people metaphorically go underwater because of home prices.

Excellent summary so far of how the ethos of home ownership evolved in nineteenth and early twentieth centuries in the United States.

I feel if anyone doubts why we continue to need housing assistance in America in 2024 really needs to read a book just like this one. Very well done.

I am finding this book captivating. It is nonfiction but reads like a narrative. I am rooting hard for the downtrodden women to find a place to call home.
