Okay what the hell lmao I started this book because it was only like 5 hours (trying to reach my reading goal) and in my mom’s audible library and I thought it was like the tv show but it is not like the tv show at all hahaha

I’m enjoying it so far

The whole thing is just an exploration of the fig tree metaphor from the bell jar

And a lot of everything is just the fig tree metaphor repackaged

I want to take PTO just so I can keep reading

Okay loving this book

Every time they say Ryder or rider the chorus of Bunny is a Rider by Caroline Polachek plays in my head for the next 3 pages

The main character’s last name is Ryder and she’s a barrel racer so it comes up a lot

I’m holding space for this book despite the challenging prose and lack of plot

I was trying to defend the book at book club (despite not finishing the book yet) and I said I found a lot of things funny and people were shocked and the only example I could think of was “Thank god I wasn’t in love with Brian Kennedy, and didn’t feel any mania to decipher his thoughts.” Like that was so funny to me

I picked this book for work book club and everyone else hates it and I hadn’t even started it but now I’m 80 pages in and I’m laughing a lot and I feel connected to the narrator on a cosmic level. I feel like they’re struggling bc they’re listening instead of reading the words and experiencing the dry humor as you stumble across the page. Maybe their internal reading voice just doesn’t have what it takes

I started this book in 2020 and obviously got distracted but I remember thinking it was pretty funny so now I’m going to try to finish it on the last day of the year in 2024
