A beautiful book, highly recommend this one.

I enjoyed how the perspective of the main character expanded through the book as he made new friends, and like him, I learned a lot.

I paused on this for a while cause reading it became unrelaxing, it made me think of work! But it's a good book to read if you're in creative industries, and so relevant to our studio's creative growth right now!

Did not realize this was book #2 in a series..😅 guess I'll read the first one next

I knew right away I was going to enjoy this book, (its filthy first line begged sharing with my reading companion sunbaking next to me) and I was really sunburnt by the time I was ready to look up from reading to reapply my sunscreen.

So this isn't a review but a reminder to slip slop slap extra well before you read at the beach this summer, people.

I almost put this book down after the first chapter or so because I didn't feel like I had the energy to figure out what was going on.
But now I'm into it.

This book itself is incredibly pretty 🌺 and it resonates with my existing ideas, nothing challenging about it yet.
It's also nice to have this validation at this stage of lockdown. (Yes, my unwashed hair, failure to get dressed and general zero effort in my appearance is all okay, thanks for the reminder of that, Florence)

The chapter on thylacines (the extinct Tasmanian "Tigers") has really hooked me in

The previous chapters on the development/history of animal neurology went into more detail than I was in the mood for (as I read that book in line to get my covid test), but I'm back into it now that we're talking about animals again (putting sea lions in mazes to learn about their memories pinniped brains), I prefer those sections rather than the detailed brain minutae in this book.

Enjoying the Autistic and Vietnamese perspectives of this novel. A wee bit saucier than I thought it would be!

So hauntingly beautiful and bittersweet

Reading this for book club. I'm fascinated so far. Both repelled and enthralled reading about Deborah (Henrietta's daughter) growing up at the moment. the setting for Henrietta's home life sounds like it shares many similarities with the setting of The Bluest Eye, another book club read.
