The Confessions is deep, thought-provoking, impactful, still full of modern issues, an apologetic argument for and prayer to God blended with poetry, testimony, discussion, and plea recognized as a gracious gift from God and humbly directed back to God. Reading this book was a rewarding learning experience. I'll definitely plan on re-reading it to glean more insight.
