DNF at 26%. I tried hard to like this one especially since it’s supposed to be a classic but it was just kinda boring and all the characters are insufferable except Basil, whom the other two characters disparage heartlessly behind his back while claiming to be his friend. Maybe I just don’t get the book, and maybe it gets better as it goes, but honestly I don’t have time to waste on boring books.

Started ok but suddenly turned from creepyish Victorian gothic into 100% romance. I don’t mind a little romance, but the author left no room for imagination. Not only was every glance, word, hand gesture, and eyelash flutter described in excruciating, paragraph-long detail, the author also explained every “hidden meaning” in even more excruciating detail…as if I didn’t already know they were in love🙄🤮
