So far this book is doing a lot that is interesting.

I recommend the English translation to you, friends.

It’s a mystery, it’s a coming of age / portrait of the artist story, it’s got a bit of the historical novel in it (one plotline traversing WWI, WWII), and it’s also a reflection on literature, art itself. I see why it won the Goncourt (basically French Pulitzer) a few years ago.

Five stars already.

Almost every poem is beautiful, contains some line or image that makes the reader stop and look up from the page.
