Also intrigued by the title — the adversary/enemy is, I assume, a title that intends the theological reference.

The setup of this book seems like the French version of In Cold Blood — author attends the trial of a murderer, establishes a relationship with him, seeks to understand him. A man lives a lie and when it comes unraveled, kills his family and tries (but fails) to kill himself. *hard to type* intrigued less by the over-the-topness and more by the psychological complexity/mystery of how someone could arrive there.
