Immersive af, I truly felt the tension of the match, felt the urge to win both of them carried, wanted both of them to win because these girls have such sad lives the victory would have been the only thing they'd have for themselves. I love the pacing, makes you feel out of breath and really mimics the match's rhythm. I also really enjoy the glimpse at the past and the future and the pathetic gravita they carry

I've gotten used to Tookie without realising it. She feels rather unique has a character, very layered and realistic, I enjoy that.
Her relationship with Hetta really intrigues me and I hope we'll get to explore it
Finally,I'm happy to read a books that makes references to the real world not cringe!! It's smooth here, and fits Tookie well

So far I can't say I really like it, but I feel like I could really get used to Tookie and like her unusual narrative style. I think this first part was a bit wonky for me and made me feel always two steps behind, but it seemed more like an introduction atm so I don't think it can predict my overall enjoyment of the book

I hate to hate an arc but...
This book doesn't know, or doesn't show well enough what it wants to be. It's not cosy sci-fi, but the emergency feels unimportant and doesn't seem to have any impact apart from the two mcs storylines... The city & the people feel distant and like a cardboard play set.

I like the individual stories of characters we don't know the name of, but the main story line is just... boring. The way it's written is just so flat, it doesn't differentiate actions from descriptions from commentaries from the narration, everything is always on the same level

I don't think it's bad, but the writing isn't working for me. It's not very immersive and I don't feel really invested in the plot or the characters.

So far, I'm not the biggest fan of the way the narration chimes in, it's feels a bit formulaic and flat. BUT I'm really intrigued by the plot and maybe by Arjun as well. We'll see how it goes
