You can really tell Chandler was having fun writing this one. It feels more loose than the other Marlowe novels I’ve read, like Chandler really had the ‘formula’ down by then and wanted to experiment, joke around a bit with his readers. A very self aware detective novel, to the noir genre like what Scream was to horror movies.
