Don't let me slow progress be an indication of my not liking this. It is SO interesting! I just wish I had more time. (That really is my theme these days.)

I am not making much headway with this book, but am enjoying it. I do find it ironic that FDR was a supporter of of the liquor control law...based on other books I have read about him, that man loved his liquor!

Starting the JM Keynes chapter today.

Marx is a bit of a shmuck.

Had a hard time getting into this in the beginning, but now I am totally sucked in. Intense.

Thought this quote of an interpretation of Adam Smith's ideas was interesting - "Capitalism civilizes greed in much the same way that marriage civilizes lust. Greed, like lust, is part of our human nature...What capitalism does is to channel greed in such a way that it works to meet the wants and needs of society."

According to Tolstoy we can blame indecipherable poetry on Baudelaire and Verlaine. I have been looking for someone to blame for quite some time. Thank you, Tolstoy!

Regarding defining beauty......the more cloudy and confused the conception conveyed by a word, with the more aplomb and self-assurance do people use that word, pretending that what is understood by it is so simple and clear that it is not worthwhile even to discuss what it actually means.

If students would quit needing my help, or if I stop falling asleep on my comfy chair, I could maybe finish this book!

This book is so friggin' good!

I love reading at work because I sit in front of a computer and can quickly share great lines... Hatred, like desire, canceled out intelligence and reduced man to a creature of sheer instinct.

Not very far in, but am loving it. My company left today, so hopefully will get more reading in...my family is so much easier to ignore than guests.

Little factoid: Churchill hated whistling...so did Hitler.
