Honestly, I can't decide whether I like this novel or not. It's much easier to read than I expected, and the story is interesting. The voice is just so immature, though. I guess I'm having a hard time reconciling the poet with the novelist.

I decided to take a break from this book--one quarter of the way into it and it was putting me to sleep. The writing is wooden (too much describing hand motions that are supposed to convey tone or meaning), the story is ho-hum, and the characters are uninteresting. I was reading it for Venice, but so far Caterina hasn't left her office since she arrived.

I may not resume...I expected more of Leon.
