I hate how much I'm liking this, terrified I'm becoming my dad. My only solace is that the ratio of macro econ stuff to actual military stuff is like 25:1.

This is like Piketty but each chapter, instead of working through four iterations of capital flows to derive some vague axiomatic statement, is the piecemeal construction of the worst economic machine in history.

Like 15 hours in and the war is just starting, impressive how engaging it is even though the narrative never strays substantively from the economics.

God he was a prick, a genius and all but still.

Absolutely cannot cavil with the description of this as an "economic history". I am listening to this and I never thought ten hours of industrial/fiscal policy and a balance of payments crisis could be so interesting.

Kinda wild that Scott Shapiro took a break from the exclusive legal positivism trenches to write a brief history of cybercrime.
