The more I read this the more Catherine almost makes me laugh with her dry tone/voice. You don’t find out until basically the end that the person she climbs with in Antarctica where she almost died from falling from the beginning of the book is also her romantic partner that she has a child with. I thought maybe that would have come up during the first story but alas. I find that odd

Catherine mentions a million times that safety is her number 1 priority. “Will always err on the side of the greatest safety.” I kinda call bs on that lol every time she tells a story she mentions doing things that are stupid or not thought through or unsafe. By hey, soo la voo

Hard to follow the timeline at times and it’s hard to picture what she’s doing because I’m not familiar with the terminology or how the equipment is used but I’m still enjoying the read

So far - really interesting. It’s my tropical vacation beach read. Not sure if I’ll finish it before we get home tho

Have gotten close to crying a few times even though it’s super corny

Started a few days ago. Hard to get into at first but then last night I didn’t want to put it down. I’ve enjoyed the changing perspectives, the raw emotion. I’m liking it more than I thought I would when I started.

The way poppy describes Alex is that of someone so deeply in love. It’s almost weird. Poppy is giving extreme millennial core and the conversations definitely show that too

Brought this book to read on the cruise. Heard good things. Extremely slow, intentionally vague about the event that led to their relationship souring to the point of mild annoyance. Tilly seems like the main character is head over heels for Alex. Idk. Will continue reading tho

Picking this back up. Really struggling to read it. It’s very wordy and because of that and the writing style I’m finding it difficult to understand. I want to finish this book but I may need to put it down again

So far I really enjoy Evelyn’s character but I’m finding Monique’s character written poorly. She’s slow to understand Evelyn and can’t seem to say the right thing to her. She’s constantly misunderstanding Evelyn. If I were Evelyn I’d be worried that I wasn’t being heard properly and she’d get my story wrong

Some people are a little too honest when writing memoirs/biographies…. As much as I understand the impact of grief I was hoping to read a story centered around hiking the PCT

Currently it’s 1999 in this book and yet someone mentioned an iPod LOL about 8 years early

Getting a little weird at times. Leaves out details and then brings them up later randomly. Timeline is a bit hard to follow.

A lot of fluff and American history. It’s interesting but I’m more interested in Emma Gatewood
