I’m captured by the story. I’m curious about the relationships; they’re all so unique. I’m shocked by the terms that Desiree’s daughter has to endure and reading those derogatory terms/names on paper -recited from character memory within the book. Staring at the words felt wrong to mouth inside my head. Definite trigger warnings for dark skinned folks.

I ha ent finished reading it yet. So close but so far, I’ve been inspired to cook a big meal and eat honey on buttered flavorful bread, toasted. Reasons I enjoyed reading the book:
- I have twin daughters & I’m always interested in the twin-sister dynamic
- The writing about nuances of human behavior is impeccable. I felt like I could relate
- I was touched & surprised by the process of learning written about
