I read this before "The Postman Always Rings twice" but forgot to document it for my 2020 challenge. Nothing to see here

Yeah, definitely no murder. I enjoy reading this book because it's just about a woman trying to rebuild her life while her daughter, Veda, criticizes everything she does. It's compelling and I cannot tell you how much I hate Veda haha.

Mildred is a straight boss though!

This book is much different than Cain's other novels. I love the character Mildred and even though there isn't any murder or scheming going on (yet) I am still richly invested in these characters. Can't wait to read more!

I really forgot how good this book was. When I read it in high school the language was somewhat confusing. I think that's because I had never read hardboiled crime novels but this time around it was much easier to understand. The masochistic qualities are still shocking kind of. Back in the 30's it was considered taboo. Can't wait to finish it!

I'm rereading this classic my James Cain. I first discovered it in high school but I want to read it again to fully appreciate it. Two months or so ago I read Double Indemnity and that was great. After I reread this one, I think I might try out "Cocktail Waitress" or "Mildred Pierce."
