Okay, I'm finally throwing in the towel and taking a break with this one. Have been slammed with editing work, so reading a novel isn't my jam right now. Hope to get back to it sometime this year.

Within the first 37 pages I told my husband, "If he uses the verb 'hustled' one more time, I am out!" And found at least one typo, of course. Now I'm recalling why I rarely read fiction these days: it feels like work. However, I'm trying to flip off my editor brain and simply enjoy the story. We shall see...

While reading this book, I'm recalling why I happily left academia and don't read many "academic" books these days. So exhausting! Not to disparage the author or her labors in bringing this book to fruition--more a commentary on my current life season.

Regardless, I'm determined to persevere through this one, if I can. Might take me a while. I perked up when I read a quote from the first woman discussed, Dorothea
